What Are Implant Dentures?

Much like regular dentures in that they can restore an entire arch of missing teeth, these prosthetics will be directly supported by dental implants embedded into your jawbone. After the metal posts have successfully fused to the bone tissue via osseointegration, they can provide the stable foundation necessary to preserve your facial shape as well as keep your new teeth stable for many years to come.

Fixed/Permanent Implant Dentures

These types of implant dentures—also known as “hybrid prostheses”—are meant to stay in your mouth until your dentist decides to remove them. Since they’re fixed in place, you can easily maintain them like with your natural pearly whites. Simply brush, floss, and rinse them with mouthwash every day to keep them healthy and beautiful.

Removable Implant Dentures

Some patients may have experienced significant jawbone deterioration. If so, removable implant dentures may be ideal as they won’t require as many dental implants in the jawbone to support them. This will also require you to maintain them like traditional dentures, such as brushing and soaking the prosthetics overnight.

The Implant Denture Process

During your initial consultation, we’ll review your dental history, evaluate your oral situation, discuss your smile goals, and determine the optimal solution for restoring your missing teeth. Some patients may require preliminary treatments like bone grafting and gum disease therapy before moving forward with placing dental implants.

Dr. Walia can complete the entire procedure in-house, so you can be in one location while receiving the treatment you need from a team you already know and trust! Once we’ve finished your surgery, you’ll be sent home to heal and wait for osseointegration to complete, which can take around three to six months. After you’ve recovered, you’ll return to us to receive your abutments. Once you’ve healed from that appointment, you can come back to get your final implant dentures!

Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentures?

Most people who are missing teeth can be eligible for this treatment option. That said, here are certain prerequisites you’ll have to meet before we can go forth with your procedure:

  • No underlying/developing oral health complications (such as decay, gingivitis, or cavities)
  • Healthy and sufficient jawbone mass to support dental implants
  • Commitment to keeping great oral hygiene
