How Does Dental Insurance Work?

Normal medical insurance is generally built around paying for treatments for health problems that have already occurred. Dental insurance, on the other hand, is more concerned with preventive care. This generally means that your regular checkups and cleanings will receive the most coverage, and in many cases, they’ll even be fully covered. On the other hand, most insurance companies will only pay part of the cost of a restoration such as a crown or for procedures such as root canal therapy.

What is Covered in a Dental Insurance Plan?

As there are many different insurance companies, the coverage that your policy provides will vary. We can help you explore your benefits before you have to commit yourself to a treatment. The typical framework for dental insurance coverage is spelled out below. (Note that your plan might be different.)

  • Preventive care (as in regular checkups and cleanings) are often completely covered.
  • Minor treatments such as fillings are covered by about 80 percent.
  • Crown placement and other “major treatments” are given 50 percent coverage.
  • Most plans will not help pay for cosmetic procedures like teeth whitening.

We Provide In-Network Savings & Gladly Accept Out-of-Network Providers

At the moment, we are in-network with most major PPO plans. That means we provide services at a predetermined cost set by the insurance company. However, we can still accept other plans as well. Coverage may vary, but we’ll make sure that you completely understand what your policy pays for so that you enjoy the highest amount of savings possible. If you’re not sure whether your insurance will be accepted, or if you’d like a rough estimate of how much will be covered, get in touch with our team members.
